Dr. Z. Michael Taweh
Dr. Taweh received his bachelor’s of arts degree in biology and chemistry from Central Connecticut State University in 1992 and his medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine, West Indies. He completed clinical clerkships at United States and United Kingdom hospitals from August 1992 to December 1996. He completed his internship and residency at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., where he was resident teacher of the year in 1999. He is board certified in internal medicine and has been a staff physician at Danbury Hospital since July 2000. Dr. Taweh began his practice of primary care and geriatrics five years ago in Newtown, later relocating to Germantown Road in Danbury. He has been practicing at his current location at 16 Hospital Avenue since fall 2004. In June 2003, he founded Kevin’s Community Center Free Clinic in Newtown, a health care center dedicated to serving uninsured and underinsured adults, in memory of his son, Kevin. The clinic is open on Wednesdays from 1 to 5 p.m. at no cost to the patient, who must meet eligibility requirements and be residents of Newtown. He served as medical director of Harborside at Glen Hill Nursing Home in Danbury from February 2002 to April 2004. |
In 2004 he was the recipient of the 25 th annual Magida Award. This prestigious award, named in honor of Dr. Melville G. Magida, is presented annually by the Fairfield County Medical Association and the Richard and Hinda Rosenthal Foundation. The award recognizes a young physician who has shown a notable capacity for patient treatment and care and a special sensitivity to patient-physician relationships. Dr. Taweh was also the recipient in 2004 of The Gail Smith Award. He was also the first place winner of the American College of Physicians Clinical Vignette Competition in New York City in May 1999. He is licensed as a physician/surgeon by the State of Connecticut and is a Diplomate, American Board of Internal Medicine. He has completed the United States Medical Licensing Examinations, Steps I through III, and the British Basic Sciences Comprehension Examination (BSCE). He is also licensed in Advanced Cardiac Life Support and as an American Red Cross Instructor, first aid/adult CPR. Dr. Taweh is a member of the American College of Physicians/American Society of Internal Medicine, American Medical Association (AMA), American Geriatrics Society, American Association of Medical Directors, Fairfield County Medical Association, Connecticut Society of Medicine, and American Red Cross. |

Dr. Z. Michael Taweh has wanted to be a doctor
ever since he was in Middle School. During high school and
college, he chose courses of study that would help him to
attain that goal.
