Donate to KCC

KCC has been funded by generous gifts from area residents, local businesses and grants. 85% of funds and resources raised for operations go directly to patient services. The Town of Newtown and the Newtown Health District generously provide facility clinic space and a number of pharmaceutical companies provide free samples for our use. Drug Center Pharmacy of Newtown offers prescription medications at a reduced cost as well. The Visiting Nurse Association of Newtown, Ameri-Cares Free Clinics and Newtown Social Services Department, each played significant roles in our founding and continue as our mentors and colleagues.

Dear Friend of Kevin’s Community Center,

There is a very good chance that one of your friends or neighbors has no health insurance and can’t afford proper medical care and has thus let their medical needs go unattended.  Kevin’s Community Center free medical clinic helps relieve the burden of the health care crisis, providing the uninsured the care they need before they have to resort to urgent care.

Over 800 families here in Newtown, have no health care coverage at all. Approximately 400,000 state residents are uninsured.  48 percent of community hospitals said their emergency rooms were operating beyond capacity according to the American Hospital Association and emergency room visits in Connecticut have risen nearly every year from 1.1 million in 1996 to nearly 1.4 million in 2003. We expect the need for our services to increase.  Health care costs continue to rise causing more people to be uninsured each year as Newtown’s population has increased by an estimated 7% from 2000 – 2004 according to Census Bureau statistics.

Since we opened our doors in August of 2003, our free clinic has served over 1000 patient visits. In 2005 we provided more than $500,000 of free medical services through a combination of our work at the clinic and referrals to health care specialists who have committed to provide free services to our patients.

The Town of Newtown and the Newtown Health District generously provide facility clinic space, however, we must rely on the generosity of the public to provide operational funds in order to pay for such costs as a part-time salary for our clinic director, employment taxes, professional liability insurance, fire insurance, telephone, office and medical supplies and some medications. We invite you to become a member of our Garden of FriendsAnnual Support campaign. Your charitable gift will enable KCC to continue to provide free medical services to those who require medical care but cannot afford it.  With your help we can ensure a bright and healthy future for those in need in our community.  Thank you for your support.

Sincerely,

Z. Michael Taweh, M.D.
